Welcome Home to Newcastle
Situated in the rapidly-expanding area of Newcastle, South Africa ROC Global has set itself up for a distinct advantage to be the project manager of choice for new developments to arise in the region.
Founded in 2007, ROC Global is a world-class construction company that ended up evolving organically from Ni-Da’s core business of transporting steel across South Africa.
Consisting of ROC Global Construction and ROC Global Development, the company boasts an annual turnover of approximately 230 million rand and has been involved in various types of projects from residential estate developments, industrial buildings to high-tech BTS rooms for Vodacom and MTN for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The company offers services in construction, design and build, property and infrastructure development as well as management over the project.
Simply put, “we are a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all your turnkey project management solution requirements,” says Jan-Harm Greyling, one of the founders of ROC Global.
Location, Location, Location
ROC Global mainly focuses on the Gauteng, Durban and KwaZulu Natal North coast areas for its projects, which is convenient considering it is headquartered equi-distant from all three hubs in Newcastle.
“It puts us in an ideal position to manage projects in these areas,” says Greyling.
The Northern Natal area is also situated on tourism routes with a “different feel”, like the British/Boer/Zulu battle routes as well as the Northern and Central Drakensberg being in close proximity. This has lent to expansion opportunities in the area where ROC Global has become involved.
The recession that bit into the South African market during 2008 started impacting the construction industry closer to 2010 and 2011, says Greyling, which forced many companies to look at the cost-effectiveness of every operation. This, in turn, made the competition even tougher. However, ROC Global didn’t simply navigate through these challenging economic times, but it actually grew the business during this period because the management team realised early on the importance of effectively managing all costs on all projects as well as the integral aspect of handing them over in time and under budget.
ROC Global’s reputation and integrity in the industry has also provided the company with access to some of the country’s top professionals in engineering and architecture who are contracted, when necessary, to ensure that each client’s unique expectations are met.
One of ROC Global’s early successes is the Savannah Mall, known as “the pride of Polokwane”.
“The Savannah Mall started in 2008 with a complete renovation and some small extensions to the existing mall,” explains Greyling. “After renovations were completed, Savannah Mall was extended by an additional 14,000 G.L.A. The contract was completed on time to the tune of 250 million rand.”
Currently the company is busy working on a unique lifestyle and wellness estate in the picturesque, green mountains outside of Newcastle that will have “something for every member of the family to experience, all to the highest standard.”
Vulintaba Country Estate
Pictures don’t do justice to ROC Global’s current development, Vulintaba Country Estate.
Vulintaba, which means ‘open the mountains’ is located 18 kilometres outside of Newcastle in the breath-taking mountain range of Northern KwaZulu Natal. The 1,000 hectare project launched in March 2012 and offers 258 serviced stands, a one-of-a-kind golf course, trout dams for fly fishing as well as an exceptional 44 km mountain biking trail that has been received with acclaim. A golf academy and equestrian facility are also in the works. Needless to say, Vulintaba is perfect for those who enjoy being active and love to be surrounded by nature’s beauty.
As a seven-year project, by completion Vulintaba Estate will have approximately 700 residential opportunities, as well as a high-end 43 room hotel, a spa and wellness centre, conference centre, wedding venue as well as a club house.
The Estate will also boast the latest fibre optic technology and an extremely high level of security, adds Greyling.
The goal is to attract first-time home buyers, as well as those looking to own a second property in a remarkable part of South Africa to use as a leisure and holiday getaway destination.
“Game and an abundance of nature makes this estate the first of its kind in South Africa, Vulintaba Country Estate is set to become an iconic destination blending leisure, lifestyle and investment,” describes the company on its website.
Future
With almost six years of experience developing some major milestone projects across the country, ROC Global has recently been busy working on its first retail project outside of South Africa, with more details to be released as it develops.
Greyling believes the company is poised for even greater success over the next decade because the company isn’t afraid to learn from its mistakes and expand on its successes.
“Get ROC Global involved from the start and we will save you time and money,” says Greyling.
