An underground mine in Zambia, owned by a unit of Vedanta Resources, has suspended operations following an accident that injured seven miners, with one of the injuries being described as serious.

The accident happened last Friday when a cage used to lift copper ore from underground tripped.

Deputy mines minister Richard Musukwa says the mine will remain closed pending an investigation.
