U.S. oil sanctions on Venezuela rile Chavez on Twitter
TABJ - May 25 - The latest moves made by the U.S. to reduce oil supply to Iran, by imposing sanctions on a number of shipping companies and Venezuela’s state-owned company, PDVSA, have been condemned by the South American nation. Outspoken Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, reacted angrily to the moves, which are said to not cause any real overall detrimental affects to Venezuelan oil sale and export in the rest of the world.
Taking to his Twitter account. Chavez stated, “Sanctions against the Fatherland of Bolivia? Imposed by the Gringo imperialist? Well, welcome Mr. Obama, don't forget we are the children of Bolivar!”
“By imposing these sanctions we're sending a clear message to companies around the world: those who continue to irresponsibly support Iran's energy sector or help facilitate Iran's efforts to evade U.S. sanctions will face significant consequences,” Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg told press.
Already press are speculating as to whether the reactionary remarks made by Chavez have been done with a mind to conveying anti-U.S. opinion to bolster his bid for re-election to the presidency next year.
