Cairn gets €50k per day fines ruling against Greenpeace in offshore Greenland
TABJ - June 10 - The embattled Scottish oil and gas player, Cairn Energy, has triumphed over Greenpeace protestors who have boarded two of its deep sea offshore rigs operating from the Greenland coast, with an injunction to prevent the environmental campaigning group from further disrupting its activities.
Greenpeace, according to the ruling, will have to pay €50,000 up to €1 million for each day it comes within 500 metres of Cairn’s rigs in the region—less than the £1.8 million daily fine requested by Cairn, but still a substantial sting in the tail for activists considering paying them a visit.
Various members of the Greenpeace cam have already spoken out to press, stating that this will not prevent the group from demanding Cairn act responsibly after the oil spill there.
