Mario Pietromartire, Managing Director of Bomar Projects, patented the Mechanised Mining System that is used in Bomar’s various projects. The system is designed to excavate decline shafts and can be used for various shafts from 12 to 40 degree inclines. Mario and Romano Pietromartire also patented The Hopper Loading System which is utilized in tunnels and haulages. The Equipping Service Utility Car has also been designed to work with the Hopper Loading System to be used in the installation of rails and services, amongst other products.
A strong team
Bomar’s staff are all highly skilled and have been in the field for years. Mario Pietromartire, with 40 years’ experience in the underground construction industry, is the ideal Managing Director. He easily utilizes his skills and currently holds several records in South Africa, including:
Drill and blast: 393 metres per month in a 30 square metre cross section tunnel with a best day advance of 20 metres.
189 metres per month in a 20 square metre cross section at 14.5 degrees decline.
189 metres per month in a 20 square metre cross section at 14.5 degrees decline.
159 metres per month or 10,812 cubic metres in a 68 square metre cross section tunnel.
7 metres per day advance per day using the Alimak climber.
Romano Pietromartire, Director of Bomar Projects, brings his 25 years of experience in underground construction with expertise particularly in tendering and planning. He has worked with a number of large South African companies with tendering and has contributed his technical expertise to the development of Bomar’s patents.
General Manager Mark Tursini is a wonderful addition to the Bomar family with 20 years of experience within the mining industry. Tursini has worked on a number of notable projects in South Africa including the Gautrain Tunnel, in which he was Contracts Manager.
Those involved with Bomar foresee the company’s technology to be an opportunity to “achieve commercially viable mechanized production within a narrow tabular reef environment, well ahead of other technology-driven competitors.”
Bomar also has BEE status with 26 per cent of Bomar’s being acquired by Indawo Ye Golide Investments (Pty) Ltd., which is a “wholly black owned company.” BEE Director, MK Mohala, has years of experience and has already been CEO of City Power and worked for South Africa’s Eskom.
