Legal: Focus on Libya - Hotspot for investment and investing in Africa
“Libya is an oil rich state committed to using that wealth to invest in other economies and develop its own infrastructure on a joint basis. It’s an obvious location for international law firms and other business to focus their fire power at this time. People are regarding it as least as exciting a prospect as the Middle East. The test of business interest is how full are the flights to Tripoli with businessm and the flights always seem full and there are plenty of business people.”
Denton Wilde Sapte LLP has made the first formal association between an international law firm and a Libyan law firm, adding Tumi Law Firm to its market-leading network of associations with leading African firms.
“We’ve worked in Libya for several years, and this association now provides us with a strong tie to the country’s biggest law firm. Libya is a very interesting emerging market for many of our key clients,” says Howard Barrie.
“The government is currently engaged in a range of structural reforms, encouraging further international interest in the country’s oil and gas sector, as well as investment and activity in other sectors. Libya is also a significant investor elsewhere in Africa and globally. By working closely with Tumi Law Firm, we will bring our clients excellent international and local capability, knowledge and experience,” adds Michael Lacey, managing partner of the Denton Wilde Sapte’s Cairo office.
Tumi Law Firm was established in 1990 and advises domestic and international clients on energy, banking and telecoms work, as well as providing corporate and disputes services.
The association builds Denton Wilde Sapte’s presence in North Africa, joining Algerian associate Cabinet Hadj-Hamou et Djouadi and the Cairo office, which will manage the association with Tumi Law Firm.
Denton Wilde Sapte’s full network of African firms is located in Algeria; Burundi; Ghana; Kenya; Libya; Mauritius; Rwanda; South Africa; Tanzania; Uganda; and Zambia.
