Interflex Conveyor Belts
Years of conveyor belt manufacturing and insider knowledge in the industry has made Interflex Conveyor Belting a major player in the conveyor belt game in South Africa and beyond. The company has been creating a range of conveyor belts for major industrial mining corporations. Interflex Conveyor Belting’s belts are marketed by International Belting & Marketing Corp (Pty) Ltd, and with a motto of “quality first,” the company produces quality and expertly crafted conveyor belts to the mining marketplace.
All of Interflex Conveyor Belting’s production facilities conform to ISO 9002 quality system requirements. The belting that is supplied is inspected and has a one year warranty, proving its commitment to excellence. Interflex Conveyor Belting has a wide arrange of clients and varies from need to need.
The company states, “Our clients include gold mines, cold mines, diamond mines, platinum mines, sugar mills, quarries, cement works, foundries, brick works, aluminium smelters and all major industrial mining corporations.”
International Belting, which supplies Interflex Conveyor Belts, has become a major force in the African and South African conveyor belt market with its commitment to hard work and quality services.
Belt construction
The Interflex range consists of a number of different products but the rubber conveyor belt is a standard in the industry. It consists of a rubber cover, carcass, rubber skim coat and breaker fabric.
The rubber cover of the standard rubber conveyor belt is made of natural or synthetic rubber and systematically designed to protect the body from “abrasion, impact, deterioration, water and other injurious influences,” the company states. The covers are created to withstand conditions such as oil, heat, chemicals, fire and abrasions.
The rubber skim coat of the rubber conveyor belt is also made of synthetic or natural rubber and designed to protect the carcass. The carcass area may need protection from deterioration, impact, abrasion and water for example, so the rubber skim coat is made with the utmost durability to protect against this.
The carcass of the belt is an extremely important part of the belt as it is the tool that maintains belt tension and provides structural strength. The company says, “It does all the work in supporting and pulling the load. The carcass consists of multiple plies of rubber impregnated fabric bonded together with friction and skim coats.” Normally, the carcass is made out of polyester, cotton or nylon.
Breaker fabric is a woven fabric that is placed in between the cover and the carcass. The breaker fabric’s job is to “improve adhesion and to provide better resistance to cover stripping, gouging or tearing,” states the company. The fabric is used in belts handling, notably crushed and sized material which helps in impact strength.
Together the rubber skim coat, the carcass, the rubber cover and the breaker fabric create an Interflex standard Rubber Conveyor Belt that is state-of-the-art and durable.
Steel-cord conveyor belts
The company has many different types of conveyor belting products underneath its brand. One notable product is the steel cord belt. The steel cord belt is built to drive and head pulleys, take-up and tail pulleys, and snub and bend pulleys.
Though conveyor belts are sturdy and durable, much of their lifespan is dependent on use and the stresses of the impact from conveyed materials. Interflex Conveyor Belting is familiar with this and understands that sometimes with steel cord conveyor belts, events can occur where the belt could be punctured or split lengthwise. To stop this, the company has devoted time and energy into providing steel cord conveyor belts with additional protection.
The company states, “The aim of developing an effective system of reinforcement should be to substantially increase the reaction forces opposing the conveyed material as it drops on the belt, becomes lodged in it or cuts into it, but without adversely affecting the other features contributing to the belt’s effectiveness.”
After years of research and development efforts the company has created an active protection system with the steel cord belt that is resilient to a much greater impact and slitting resistance. The new adjustments are made with a cross reinforcement system with non-metallic special cords. These cords are spaced “at a certain interval and arranged at right angles to the belt length. These high-elongation cords, called SC, consist of synthetic fibre. They are incorporated into either the top cover or the top and bottom covers of the belt in a special manufacturing process,” says the company. This new addition to Interflex Conveyor Belt’s adds to its already innovative product line.
Extensive belt range
Interflex makes a range of belts designed to be resistant to materials such as oil, flame and heat. The oil resistance range is designed for carrying moderately oily material such as wood chips, oil treated coal and products containing animal or vegetable oil.
The range is resistant to organic matter such as soybean oil, castor oil, lard, frozen fish, soapy water, glycerine, petroleum, cotton seed oil, olive oil, butter, grease, corn oil, fuel oil, gasoline and more.
Heat resistant belts are suitable for materials carried at over 60C. The company states that the heat resistant belts are “most commonly used for conveyance of coke, cement, clinker, burnt lime, special chemical products or other powdery materials.” The belts are not only heat resistant but they are water resistant and protect against heat-crack or softening.
The belts can be used for low-medium temperature abrasive materials. These may require a high wear resistance. They can also be used for high temperature applications that do not require a high wear resistance such as fine powders like sintered ore and cement clinker.
Interflex Conveyor Belt’s flame resistant belts are specifically made to use with fire promulgation and static electricity concerns. This primarily can be seen “in underground mining, power plants, electricity utilities and coal cleaning plants,” states Interflex Conveyor Belting.
Servicing major mining companies around Africa, Interflex Conveyor Belting has made a name for itself within the industry as one of the leading conveyor belt brands. With its hefty product range extending from flame resistant belts to steel cord conveyor belts, the company has seen a great amount of growth and will continue to flourish in the mining marketplace.
