Paving the way for retaining wall blocks

This company is a major South African manufacturer of precast concrete retaining wall blocks and has been a leader in the industry since its beginnings just six years ago. Based in Gauteng, South Africa, ReMaCon has seen an excellent amount of growth in a short amount of time due to hard work and quality products.
ReMaCon focuses on the very particular market of manufacturing and supplying retaining wall blocks to its clients. This market has served well for ReMaCon as it is extremely specific.  Silvio Ferraris, Director of ReMaCon says, “We are a very niche market and we focus on the manufacturer and supply of retaining wall blocks as well as a little bit of erosion control and paving.”

Ferraris has been involved in the construction industry since 1987 and he brings his long-standing industry experience to ReMaCon.

Extensive product range

ReMaCon has a number of different products that it uses for its retaining wall blocks. Its outstanding product range includes the ReMblok 30 system which has concrete reinforced extension pieces. RemRock 220 is useful for low earth support which is used in garden landscaping and the Scooploc and Terraforce range of L11 and L18 retaining blocks which include erosion control blocks are all new, unique additions to the company’s product collection.

The Terraforce range is a completely new concept in South Africa, designed to economize and improve the design for surcharge loaded structures.

The company’s wall blocks are superior and different from conventional wall blocks in a number of ways. They are lighter and can be developed on site as opposed to conventional wall blocks. “The process is labour intensive. We make reasonably light concrete block elements that can be developed at site and then moved to the work phase and constructed row by row, unlike conventional wall blocks,” says Ferraris.

Most of ReMaCon’s wall blocks are at 90 degrees with some being from 86 to 55 degree slopes. Ferraris says, “You are able to construct these quicker and it is a lot more economical than any conventional system that is available,” says Ferraris.

There are a number of different kinds of retaining wall blocks that ReMaCon provides to its clientele. These include retainer blocks, earth reinforcing and cement retaining blocks which support soil and are often used on steep slopes. They also have blocks for gentler slopes that can be tiered with terraced block walls which forms a low retained wall height. The company’s retaining walls are ideal for landscaping in gardens as they are functional and aesthetically pleasing.

ReMaCon manufactures and supplies the product to clients and also provides structural design input. The company accommodates a range of clients from those wanting retaining wall blocks for their houses to bigger companies. “Some of our systems are generally landscaping products for people in houses who want to build a wall. They come in a sandy color and a rock. All other products are suitable for wall height up to seven metres,” says Ferraris.

Company stand-outs

Gauteng is an economic hub of South Africa so ReMaCon is in a great position for growth. The company currently has the biggest range of blocks in South Africa which gives them a leg up on the competition.

Ferraris says, “We are a very labor intensive company so again that sets us apart from our competitors. We employ four times as many laborers as some other companies.”

ReMaCon’s valuable and diverse offerings that include engineer design services and well as products ensures the integrity of the structure. The installation of structures is done by specialist contractors that the company has strong relations with.

The company has a specialty in retaining wall blocks and is a leader in the industry. In just a short number of years RemMaCon’s business has skyrocketed with its diverse range of quality products. Its wide range of retaining wall blocks have been a favorite of many home owners and bigger companies and it will remain so with its concentrated product base and client relations.
