Concrete Lining Products: The concrete repair experts

It’s all in the bag. Just add water!

That’s the motto followed by Concrete Lining Products, a manufacturer, supplier and service provider of concrete products, in addition to concrete reinforcement fibres, to the African market, both in its civil and mining regions.

In operation since 1988, Concrete Lining Products’ application division, Union Guncrete, is touted as South Africa’s “most experienced sprayed concrete contractor”, with locations in Rivonia, Carletonville, and Klerksdorp. The company specializes in concrete repair for almost any application. Under tight standards for quality control, the company is ISO-9001 certified, committed to providing innovative solutions through quality, service and safety.

Through specialized repairs using sprayed concrete application, the company uses state-of-the-art equipment in applying sprayed concrete in order to fight concrete corrosion in reinforced concrete structures. According to the company’s website, the organization works closely with a network of cement manufacturers, concrete technologists and rock engineering consultants.

In repairing with sprayed concrete, according to the company’s website, the scope and flexibility of repair work with sprayed concrete is almost unlimited, while common examples include fire damaged structures, underpinning, walls, stress relieving arches, cooling towers, sewer repairs, retaining walls, jetties and wharves, sacrificial linings, water retention, bridges and overpasses, renovations, silos, offshore structures and tunnel repairs. Concrete Lining Products also offers epoxies and specialized grouts, on-site crack investigations, using diamond drilled core samples, carbonation testing using phenolphthalein agents, hammer testing for surface integrity and magnetometer testing for the location of steel reinforcing. Among the company’s extensive product line:

Superseal: This product is made up of a plasticizer “free aqueous copolymer emulsion based on acrylic acid esters”, with wetting agents added to a cement binder. Superseal is applied under high pressure, allowing it to penetrate any fractures in the rock creating a sealing, blocking support system with a high adhesion strength, consolidating the rock on either side of the fracture. The rest of the sprayed rock is sealed and protected from further deterioration from oxidation.

Wetcrete: Steel or polypropylene fibres boost the resistance to high impact, while its exceptional quality ensures no corrosion or balling of fibres. This product is good quality shotcrete made with an additive use wet shotcrete. Advantages of using wetcrete include controlled water to cement ratio, less rebound, less dust, higher volume output, reduced labour costs per square metre applied, improved bonding, higher and more consistent compressing strengths and thicker layers in single-pass spraying.

Bagcrete: As the easiest solution to any civil construction task, Bagcrete can be used for constructing box fronts, machinery foundations or rail turnout bases, concrete piers or trackless machinery workshops. Bagcrete can be used underground with no need for batching because each bag is correctly positioned to ensure correct strength. Bagcrete has an extremely high workability and is thoroughly suitable for hand compaction and any type of form work, according to Concrete Lining Products. Quality control mean aggregate sizing is always correct, unlike the mine aggregate underground. Bagcrete comes in two popular compressive strengths.

Drycrete: This product combines ease with excellence. Controlled Water Content, in the sand used in Drycrete, means application machinery won’t block, meaning the greater control at the nozzle results in achieving higher strengths. “High Density and Highly Impermeable Drycrete attains high densities and greatly increased strength. Improved Cohesiveness is evident to the greater and faster build up of shotcrete when spraying.”

Fibrecrete: Fibrecrete adds Harex Steel Fibres in highly stressed areas where flexural strength is required. Fibres boost Fibrecrete’s resistance to impact, while its exceptional quality ensures no corrosion and “balling” of fibres in mixers. Fibrecrete reduces cracking and failure because of the high toughness index and tensile strength.

Rockseal: “Seal safety in and keep instability out with Rockseal, a consistently effective wall over deleterious rock.” With Rockseal, there is no need to fill cavities, just follow the rock profile for maximum strength. Rockseal provides a low permanent shield, which mild chemical attach to, applied with any grouting pump.

Orepass Lining: Orepass Lining Concrete provides strength under the heaviest conditions, according to Concrete Lining Products. Orepasses are the “arteries of the mine” and subject to high internal wear and external stress (“wear and tear”). The result is an abrasive-resistant concrete shield maintaining a long life and resisting the impact of tumbling rock, meaning no chipping or chunks of concrete block passages. Available in any strength, Orepass Lining Concrete is also made in andesite aggregate and quartzite aggregate. Orepass Lining contains no accelerators, therefore steel reinforcements cannot be damaged. There is no need to risk delays or blockages, as Orepass Lining Concrete is the hardest wearing concrete available.

Packwedge Weeping: Weeping grout provides a packwedge system which provides everything to pre-stress matpacks. Advantages include no need for wooden wedges and excessive labour, always correctly stressed, easy to use, insensitive to water/cement ratios, no pump-life problems, matpacks can be blasted on immediately and correct sand grades ensures pumpable grout that won’t damage pumps. The company offers a complete pre-stressing system including grout, bag, packwedge pump and mixer.

RSS Grout: This products offers pumpable grout for permanent support of back areas and gullies in stopes of shallow mines. RSS Grout can be tailored to provide sufficient force to the hanging wall to control falls of grout, while simultaneously owning good yielding characteristics.

Anchor Grout: Known as “grouting without the headaches”, Anchor Grout is the permanent solution to support problems. According to the company, grouting has never been as effective or as easy. Anchor Grout can be applied with any grout pump such as lategan, packwedger or hand pumps. Advantages include cutting cement usage drastically, enhanced rock and anchor bonding, as well as being simply to handle and store.

Bunton Grout: A pourable grout designed for repairs “when concrete isn’t an option”. Bunton Grout allows for rapid shutter removal. The product is self-leveling and resisting of sulphur attacks. Button Grout avoids wastage by allowing the required quantity to be mixed on site. Bunton Grout works equally well for machine bases or grouting in buntons.

Bunton Bagcrete: The easiest, most efficient solution to any civil construction task, on surface or underground, according to Concrete Lining Products. Manufactured to the specifications under strict quality management and resisting sulphur attacks, this concrete mix may be produced as desired on site, making it ideal when work is undertaken from shaft conveyances and avoiding waste.

Polypropylene Fibres: Concrete Lining Product’s reliable fibrillated fibres are produced and manufactured to possess high performance characteristics, developed to provide flexural strength, toughness and durability to concrete products.

The company has seen plenty of growth and expansion with its product line over its 20-plus year history. And with such expertise in its market, the future only looks bright for Concrete Lining Products.
