Mister Bread
As one of Swaziland’s biggest bread bakeries, Mister Bread has created a name for itself as a leader in bread and confectionary in Swaziland. The popular bread company has a dedicated team of individuals that work within the company producing the country’s famous confectionary treats. The company is also well known for its philanthropic efforts in Swaziland, working for the betterment of the community.
The company owns 112 of its own fleet to enable its supply chain. It also prides itself on the modern, top range machinery it utilizes for all its baking. Mister Bread just recently upgraded their equipment and is working on a new product range for 2011, to further its already extensive bread and confectionary range in Swaziland. To date Mister Bread has two production sites and one depot in Swaziland.
The staple food of Swaziland used to be maize-meal. However, maize production in Swaziland has declined for the past decade. Up until 2000, Swaziland harvested about 100,000 tonnes of maize. Since then the average has dropped to approximately 70,000 tonnes. It could be argued that it is now bread and Mister Bread has contributed to this with its commitment to providing nutritious baked goods to the community.
Philanthropy
2010 OVC Shoe Campaign
Two bread companies, Mister Bread and Swaziland United Bakeries, have worked together with the Swazi Observer and Standard Bank to support Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Mister Bread teamed up with the Swazi Observer in a campaign that looked to raise 2010 pairs of shoes for needy children.
“The campaign, whose success is phenomenal and a true reflection of the spirit of compassion and care of the Swazi nation, has seen a large number of corporations, organizations, individuals and even children donating shoes to help the needy,” says the Swazi Observer.
Musa Ndlangamandla, Swazi Observer Chief Editor, said, “Mister Bread and Swaziland United Bakeries have shown that they care very much for the welfare of children and the need and want to partner with national efforts to fight poverty. That is why it does not come as a surprise that the two companies see value in partnering with the paper that serves the nation and a bank that is moving forward in helping young children.”
Mister Bread’s products reached every part of Swaziland even remote areas in order to combat poverty. Many of Mister Bread’s products are what sustains many children and families living in poverty because of its affordable prices.
Futfumeta Umntfwanaâ campaign
Another philanthropic contribution by Mister Bread is to the Futfumeta Umntfwanaâ campaign. The company as well as Swaziland Post and Telecommunications Company (SPTC) donated jerseys for the campaign. “The campaign is the second leg of a partnership between Standard Bank and Swazi Observer, which has been fortified by the participation of the two giants SPTC and Mister Bread. The campaign seeks to raise jerseys for OVC to protect them from the winter cold,” states the Swaziland Observer.
The idea behind the campaign is to have items donated. Jerseys that have been previously used but are still in good condition were also welcome. School jerseys are about E40 but many children living in poverty cannot afford them and the warmth that they provide.
“They will remember that when they had nothing, Swazi Observer, Standard bank, Mister Bread and SPTC came to their rescue and provided warmth and love. Many will not want to see other children experience that and they will come out to help and participate in poverty alleviation drives,” said Sammy Dlamini to the Swazi Observer.
Marketing Manager Makhosazana Matsebula said to the Swazi Observer, “I can already imagine those young faces as they glow at the joy of receiving a new jersey. A child’s happiness comes from the heart to warm yours. I am confident that Swaziland will once again come together and stand up for children.”
Mister Bread is one of Swaziland’s biggest bread companies. The baker works throughout Swaziland as a major contributor to the bread industry and aids in combatting poverty. With a number of high profile initiatives aimed towards community development and philanthropy, the company remains one of Swaziland’s biggest and best bread producers. Its quality, healthy products are a stand out in the marketplace and with reasonable prices and integrity, the company has taken Swaziland by storm.
