De Keur Estates bring the fruits of their labour to your table - Quality and freshness

For such a young company, De Keur has a long history. De Keur, experts in fresh produce trading, was formed in September of 2009, after joining forces with Snocooled Marketing Pty Ltd, a reputable fruit packer and marker since 2001. Snocooled Marketing is also wholly owned and operated by DeKeur estates and Ceres Remhoogte Farming, two separate businesses under the De Keur family umbrella. The company boasts a long and successful farming heritage in the Koule Bokkeveld, an area north of the Gydo Pass, famous for its red apples, pears, peaches, plums apricots and potatoes.
Combined, the companies grow and produce fruit and vegetables on eight estates. The merger of the respective family businesses earn De Keur over a century of experience in agriculture and managing fresh product for domestic and overseas markets.
The De Keur International marketing office can be found on the Croyden Wine estate near Somerset West. All the packing of the vegetables is done on-site at the estates in the Koue Bokkeveld, while the Ceres site sees to the packaging of the fruit produce in order to ensure maximum freshness and quality for the company’s global clients.

Ceres provides the ideal fruit growing conditions thanks to its great temperature variances between the summer maximums and the winter minimums. With an average maximum of 30°C January and February are the hottest months of the year. July, on the other hand, has an average minimum of 2.4°C.
Precipitation makes fruit grow in abundance. The average annual rainfall being 1088mm occurs mainly during the winter months peaking in July with approximately 200mm. Snow during winter keeps provides insulation for the ground, while fruit trees are in their rest period.
The fruits born from the estates, situated in and around Ceres, are as magnificent as the Ceres area itself. Ceres is a town located in the Western Cape province of South Africa, named, fittingly, after the Roman goddess Ceres, goddess of growing plants. (The word ‘cereal’ is derived from Ceres).
The Koue Bokkeveld Mountains are home to six De Keur estates, approximately 40 minutes away from town by car. The estates accentuate Ceres’ reputation as an idyllic and location, where the sold is marvellously fecund. During the high season, the De Keur estates are abuzz with the activity of over 1,200 employees.
The De Keur produce list goes is exhaustive. Take, for instance, apples. Over nine different types of the fruit are grown in the estates, with blooms dispersed throughout January to September. De Keur also grows 13 varieties of plums. 60 per cent of De Keur products are exported to Europe, the UK, Far East and West Africa.
