Mannatech distributor shows heart

Mannatech Inc., a well-established nutritional supplement company, recently launched its ‘Give For Real’ programme in the United States. Under the ‘Give For Real’ programme, Mannatech donates a month’s supply of its nutritional supplements to needy children, usually in orphanages, every time someone in the United States purchases selected products from its range.

Now, an independent distributor of the company’s products, who has been visiting Ghana, wants to bring the benefits of the programme to vulnerable children in Ghana. For every 150 jars of Mannatech’s Mannabears children’s supplement that Ghanaians purchase, UK-based independent distributor, Joy Roxborough, proposes to donate £1,000 in money or additional supplements to needy children in need in Ghana.

“Ghana is a wonderful country. It is like my second home. I would very much like to join those in Ghana who are sharing what they have with those in need,” Roxborough commented.

“I first visited Ghana two years ago. Although it was a holiday, my friends and I took the opportunity to collect funds and school supplies which we donated to two schools: the Bask Academy in Accra and Bekawamin School in Kumasi. Since that first visit, I have been involved with Mannatech and I would like to see Ghana now benefiting from the company’s excellent products. I am not simply a distributor but a social entrepreneur.

“The ‘Give For Real’ programme is a donation through consumption initiative which utilizes the concept of social entrepreneurship. Social Entrepreneurship is a business model that links a company’s products to a social issue of worldwide significance.”

“Mannatech has identified global malnutrition as a matter of major concern that needs to be addressed. Malnutrition affects both rich and poor countries: rich countries because people eat too much convenience food, which are the wrong kinds of food, and poor countries because people eat too little of the right kinds of food. Everyone in today’s world can benefit from good quality nutritional supplements. But I recognize that not everyone in Ghana is able to afford this. For those who can, their purchases will help those who are unable to and who are often most at risk of poor health and malnutrition.”

Mannatech states: “Our goal is linking millions of consumers to millions of at-risk children around the globe. The concept of “Donation Through Consumption” means that as our consumer business grows, so does our giving—and we need your help to make this dream a reality. Now it’s not just a company vision, it’s a partnership with like-minded individuals—social entrepreneurs— interested in making a change for themselves and for others.”

Roxborough continued: “Even as I listened to various television talk shows during this visit, I realize that raising the general health of Ghana, and children and women in particular, is a major concern of the government in its development planning to 2015. I would very much like to partner with the people of Ghana to contribute to this development goal and to make a difference in the lives of children.”

Roxborough will be working with UK based charity, African Education Aid, to move the project forward. She said: “With the charity’s help, we hope to assist children not only in Ghana but in other African territories where a need exists.”
