The deal started in April when thousands of Zimbabweans fled to South Africa because of political unrest. The deal is set to expire at the end of 2010. spokesman Themba Maseko said to press,"After the 31st of December all undocumented Zimbabweans will be treated like all others and their deportation will resume." There is thought to be 1.5 to 2 million migrants from Zimbabwe in South Africa. South Africa has changed its policy because of the recent agreement between the two countries about providing documents to migrants. South African will now work with migrants from Zimbabwe to make sure they have appropriate documents.
