SABMiller building US$100 million brewery in Nigeria
TABJ – March 1 – Brewer SABMiller will spend more than US$100 million to build a brewery in Nigeria as the London-based company tries to grab a bigger share of the country's beer market.
The brewery in southeast Nigeria will be 20 per cent owned by Nigerian investors and the Anambra state government, SABMiller said in a statement today.
“Over the past five years we have invested over US$1 billion in Africa,” SABMiller Africa Managing Director Mark Bowman said in a statement.
“Today's announcement is an indication of our commitment to increase our capacity further and to consolidate our position as a leading international brewer on the African continent whilst contributing positively to the local communities in which we operate.”
The announcement follows SABMiller's acquisitions of two Nigerian breweries in 2009.
