The K and D in KD Build stand for Kobus Duvenhage, a man well known in the South African construction industry, having been involved in some of South Africa’s most prestigious contracts in his career, contracts such as the ABSA Bank Upington and OWK wine tasting room and offices Upington.

Duvenhage was has merged his passion for construction with a dedication to contributing to Upington, SA which primarily services the Northern Cape region. In a short time, KD Build has accrued a number of contracts. According to Duvenhage, the company takes a no-bones approach to the management of the company, one which has paid dividends. “We are working towards a goal, and that is to give the best products we can to the clients at all time. We work towards that goal with time and cost always at the forefront of our considerations, as well as building a good relationship with our client.

KD Build is formed by a team with a diverse knowledge in engineering, consultation, bookkeeping, site management, company management and finance. Personnel will take complete control of a project from storage and planning to procurement and site management, and thanks to daily, if not hourly, management checks, are able to avoid challenges before they happen.

New Referral Hospital, Upington

The New Referral Hospital, Upington, will be a vital addition to the Upington medical community. The 267-bed hospital is currently the largest construction project at 3,200 square metres and will boast multiple specialty treatment facilities.

The team at KD Build were recently given the good news that they would be the recipients of the award in the category of Building Contracts R50 million to R120 Million in the Occupational Health and Safety Competition for the period of 2008/2009—for the second consecutive year. The award was given by the Northern Cape Master Builder & Allied Trades Association, for the work on New Referral Hospital in Upington, the second largest construction project to date undertaken in the Northern Cape.

Previously, the company was awarded the award for its work on the Kalahari Golf & Jag Klub in Kathu. By working closely together with the Architect, Consulting Engineer and Client, the Kalahari Golf & Jag Klub brought an entirely new life and atmosphere to one of the Northern Cape’s landmarks, the Kathu Golf Club, which is in line with the goals of KD Build to improve and augment its community.

Site management

“Ours is a fresh approach to management and working with clients,” says Duvenhage. “We negotiate with the developers, sub-contractors and all personnel with specific objections to facilitate getting the job done correctly and in a timely manner. Every day we have meetings with all personnel and subcontractors to discuss daily what has been done.”

Duvenhage goes on to say that his company’s hands-on approach has garnered the company a reputation for paying exemplary consideration and attention to a project.
